August Finger, 13, a Boy Scout from Hondo, saved 14 year old Loraine Sauter from drowning in Castorville River during a picnic. He watched from a 20 foot tree, then leaped into the water and pulled her to safety after she sunk several times. Finger is son of J M Finger, president of the First National Bank of Hondo and belongs to Troop 3 of St John's Parish School.
A district court jury in Victoria Texas awarded farmer Joseph R Johnston 1500 against Central Power and Light Company for 18 producing pecan trees cut during a transmission line construction. The suit sought 3000 dollars and the company plans to appeal.
Trapped by flames in Amarillo Tourist hotel five men died or were killed leaping from third floor windows. At least twenty injured, three seriously. Names include Peter Keans Cole Raymond Cozart Hoyt Crowe J P Perdian plus an unidentified man. Hotel operator Birdie Rhodes among the injured. Fire discovered at 3 30 am with the wooden structure offering few exits.
Austin May 10 Electro cution of John A Pete McKenzie convicted of killing Chief of Detectives Sam Street in San Antonio on September 10, 1927 is set for two weeks from now. Governor Moody's two month reprieve ends at midnight May 25 with no word on commutation or second stay. Mr and Mrs H C Carter of San Antonio urged the condemned man to mercy and Mrs Carter has led the campaign to save him.
Mrs. Lucile Hayden of 1200 Gulf St Beaumont says she rose from 118 to 134 pounds after using Sargon. She suffered malaria neuritis and constipation with poor digestion and fatigue before treatment.
