Over the Old Chisholm Trail Across Texas to Nebraska
An 1882 cattle drive from near Buda Texas to Ogallala Nebraska recounts 15 men in one outfit, led by Ovie Cato and James Kingsbury. The trek covers prairies, Red River crossings, Indian Territory, and Dodge City with details on camp routine, remuda care, stampedes, and weather-related challenges. Holden falls ill and dies after returning home. Cato earns lasting praise and one surviving teammate is Charles Kluge.
