War Production Board rules require automobile license plates to last for the duration of the war. Small date tabs will be attached to old plates, saving about 90 percent of sheet metal. California has begun reusing 1941 plates with a metal strip, and next year tabs may be limited to four square inches. Harold B Rowe chief of the food rationing division announces a sugar sale suspension from midnight to allow wholesalers and retailers to inventory and register stocks ahead of nationwide sugar rationing cards starting May 4 and continuing through May 7. Sales will resume May 5 or 6.
Fredericksburg will participate in state wide clean up week March 29 to April 4 per a mayoral proclamation. City trucks will collect trash on March 31 and April 1 with curbside containment and call in pickups for missed items. The effort aligns with Easter preparations and the national war effort.
Fredericksburg citizens filed for school trustee positions ahead of the April 4 election. Incumbent Herman Fischer Jr. is joined by challengers Walter Ottmers Willie Grinke and Charles Dolezal, all filing with secretary August Stahl. Holdover trustees include Dr. Lester Keyser Felix Wilke Walter Knoche egal Humes and Arnold Klinkiek.
Fredericksburg officials announced the graduation schedule for the two high schools. Public School baccalaureate on May 17 and exercises on May 19 with 90 graduates this year, down from 107 last year. St Marys graduation on May 22 with 23 candidates, up from 13 last year.
Fredericksburg wholesale of agents announces starting April 1 no deliveries under 50 gallons of gasoline or kerosene. The seven agents say the change responds to the current tire shortage that prevents small quantity deliveries.

Cotton production in Gillespie County dropped in 1941 with 756 bales ginned versus 494 bales in 1940, per county statistician Robert Walter. The data highlights a major decrease in local cotton activity during the year.
Ellis Thornburg announces a Navy Recruiting Service rally at Peters Hall on Saturday March 28 at 8 p m. The event aims to enlist men aged 17 to 50 into the Nimitz Company to serve for the war duration, with films of the fleet and navy schools, short talks, and free entertainment for families.
Under HB 222, the 47th Legislature requires all candidates to file an affidavit in the Texas Secretary of State office. The document, available through County Clerk Henry H. Holy, binds candidates to support the present government form and defend the Constitution and laws. The affidavit must be notarized and sworn.
