A large crowd attended the sixth annual Stonewall Peach JAMboree over the weekend. Nila Norton and Mates retauph were crowned Peach Queen and Texas Peach Queen during rodeo arena ceremonies, with pageant events, auctions, and prize awards continuing through Saturday.
Fredericksburg VFW Post 1105 backs a statewide fundraiser for the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Memorial Naval Museum. The Texas VFW state convention in Corpus Christi approved a resolution urging all Texas posts to participate, forming a five member committee to organize details.
Fredericksburg Lurgs annual Fourth of July celebration runs Sunday through Tuesday July 2 3 and 4 with daily horse racing and afternoon band music. Festival sponsor E W Stroeher says Texas finest horses are entered for purse races while Victor Kraus kopf notes excellent track conditions and bogie calls before each race. Glenn Juenke a Fredericks Bully High School graduate will trumpet To The Post before races.
The first pistols were created in Pistoria Italy during the 16th century, giving the weapon its name.
Fredericksburg to get a City cable system as the Fredericksburg Cable Corporation forms and awards a construction contract to Grisham Construction Company of Austin. Arthur Stehling announces plans for seven channels with a local station, free first month, no charge to connect during construction, and monthly fees not to exceed six dollars. The system will span about 29.1 miles of line, using city and occasional telephone poles, with franchise regulation by the city.
Jaycee Wives along with forty merchants and local clubs donate funds and time to improve the Court house Square southeast corner. Four picnic tables nine benches are set in concrete. bandstand repainting and a seesaw add features as Fredericksburg Chamber takes over further upgrades with official county authorization for leveling and more improvements.
J W Harper was installed as the Fredericksburg Rotary Club president during a ladies night at the Sunday House Restaurant. District Governor H Heine Wier presided, with Walter Fuhrmann and others succeeding as officers and new directors named.
Pledges to Hill Country Memorial Hospital Building Fund total 579000, only 21000 short of the 600000 goal and 21000 away from a 40000 foundation grant. June 30 is the cut off for original contributors. Drive officials urge pledges by June 30 with three year payments and promise maximum recognition. Original contributors will be listed in July 1967 newspaper and in the Golden Book of Original Contributors. Plaques will honor donors of 250 or more.
