Standard Wins State Awards for News Pictures and Columns
The Fredericksburg Standard won second place in news pictures and third in column writing for Around The Square at the Texas Newspaper Contest in Dallas. The paper, among eight Division V weekly papers in towns of 3500 to 6000, adds two major prizes this year. editor Art Kowert accepted the honors with his wife, Mrs. Kowert, at the convention led by Aubrey McAlister.

Old Timers Night Set By Jaycees
The Fredericksburg Jaycees plan Old Timers Night at 6 30 p m on Bear Mountain Road five miles from the city. Glenn Dittmar says active Jaycees former members and guests are invited for a tribute and meet and barbecue supper at 7 30 p m. Mrs Hattie Nowotny of New Braunfels is named Divisional Queen of the San Antonio Texas sales division for Investors Diversified Services Inc after the May Sales Campaign.

Murdered Woman Found in Shallow Grave Near City
A 19 year old woman identified as Mrs. J C Bierschwale was found buried in a shallow grave in a tool shed near her former home on Highway 87. She had been murdered and buried on May 6 1965. Her husband J C Bierschwale surrendered to the deputy sheriff at 2 a m and was charged with murder with malice. The couple had two young children and the case prompted a missing person listing by the DPS.
