Charles E. Fisher, 41, superintendent at Spur Substation No. 7, receives the Hoblitzelle award for a 2,4,5-T airplane spraying method that controls mesquite on over 400000 acres, improves native grasses, and supports grazing. The process uses a coarse oil water emulsion sprayed from a low-flying plane, costing about 3 dollars per acre with minimal harm to cattle. Fisher’s work, backed by trials in Spur, shows 98 percent ground-level kill and rapid suppression of regrowth, aiding soil conservation and range productivity.
