Hill Country Notes From the Democratic State Convention

The Democratic State Convention featured Gillespie County delegates H. H. Sagebiel and Alfred Petsch. Sagebiel served on the Credentials Committee while Petsch joined the Delegate Committee fight for National Convention delegates at Houston. Governor Moody backed an uninstructed slate, opposing Tom Love’s bloc and Al Smith forces. Dean won the temporary chair and the Dean candidacy’s supporters clashed with Collins and Berry. A later exchange saw Judge John Boyle denouncing Smith’s political football while supporting Dean.

Fredericksburg to repave Main Street with mixed funding

Fredericksburg plans curb to curb repaving of Main Street 90 feet wide after a 22 foot state road pave share 18 foot State Highway hold and 50 feet funded by adjacent property owners. Local Chamber leads subscriptions while business owners prop up cross street paving and rock deliveries continue.

Mrs Pfiester dies at sanitarium after long illness

Mrs Felix Pfiester nee Frida Girasso died at a local sanitarium on Thursday May 24 at 11 15 PM. Born March 14 1877 she was 1 year 2 months and 10 days old at death. Survived by husband Alfred married April 6 1909 eight children and many in laws and siblings. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Arthur Koerner Holy Ghost Church with interment in city cemetery Saturday at three o clock.

Ordination of Priests by Archbishop Drossaerts

Archbishop Drossaerts of San Antonio will ordain three men at St Marys Church Fredericksburg on June 7. Armand Weber Benjamin Kaminski and Francis John Fellmann will be ordained. a procession at nine in the morning and a two oclock confirmation for over a hundred children follow the ordination. Visitors from Kerrville Austin and San Antonio are expected.

Fredericksburg Pioneer Henry Korzik Sr Dies at 91

Fredericksburg mourns Henry Korzik Sr a longtime respected citizen who died Thursday morning at his home on the outskirts at age 91 years 2 months and 24 days. Funeral services were held at the home and burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery at 4 P M officiated by Ghost Church. An obituary will appear next week.

Drive Off Of Bridge In Bridge Creek Rescue

A Sunday morning car crash near Turner Hall saw an Overland lose steering and plummet 15 to 20 feet into a creek. Passengers Bill Dunn and a High Line worker escaped unharmed and freed themselves with help from Ernst Wilke Jr. of Sudden Service who towed the car to a garage.

Mrs Franz Moritz 67 dies after short illness at Morris Ranch

Mrs Franz Moritz nee Katharina Stein died Friday morning at Morris Ranch after a brief illness at 67. Born May 19 1861 in the county she married Franz Moritz on November 26 1878. he died June 1 1925. Survived by children Mrs Joseph Staudt Mrs Albert Jordan Karl Moritz Mrs Alfred Reed Theresa Moritz and Mrs Reinhold Schmidtzensky plus her mother 42 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral at St Marys church officiated by Father Heckmann with interment in the Catholic cemetery. Judge A N Moursand and wife of San Antonio visited Fredericksburg last Sunday.

Vital Statistics Law Promotes Full Birth and Death Recording

Gillespie County adopts new Vital Statistics Law with one registrar to unify precincts. Births must be reported within five days by attending physician or parent if needed. death certificates and burial permits required before removal. In early 1928 only 16 births and 18 deaths were reported, suggesting under registration. Local registrar Henry Langerhans, in Sagehiel’s Gold Building office, urges compliance and contact Austin for details.

Irene Flachmeier Receives A B Degree at SWT College

Among fifty seven seniors graduated by Southwest Texas Teachers College on May 28 Miss Irene Flachmeier earned her A B degree. She posted a flawless honor roll record since 1925 and belonged to leading organizations. She has taught in several county schools and is the daughter of Reverend and Mrs W Flachmeier of Cave Creek.
