Veterans Benefits and National Service Life Insurance FAQs
A veteran denied a pension may still receive GI Bill benefits. A veteran may reduce NSLI policy by multiples of 500 dollars, not less than 1,000. Beneficiaries are not notified unless requested. Remarriage of a widow stops only the widow’s pension for the children. A five year level premium term policy can be converted if requirements are met while waiver of premiums applies. Gratuitous NSLI issued to POWs remains in force with premiums waived during captivity and six months after.
