New Crop For Texas Flax Being Recommended

Flax is urged as a winter growing cash crop for South Texas farmers. The crop aids soil erosion control and soil fertility while avoiding AAA production limits.

Trench Silos Offer Farmer Simple Efficient Feed Storage

Gillespie County farmers plan or have built trench silos this year with Felix Feller near Fredericksburg among the examples. County Agent Henry Grote directed the building and filling process which used nine Mexicans to cut and bind feed and three teams to haul materials. The 150 by five by eight foot trench holds about 100 tons of feed and cost around 30 dollars. Feller used 75 gallons of water per ton and added black molasses to aid seasoning. He reports cattle ate the trench-silo feed readily during winter and spring 1940. County Agent Grote expects more farmers to adopt silos to meet future feeding needs.
