Fredericksburg Gem Show Draws 3000+ From 19 States
The Fredericksburg Rockhounds wrapped up their 1976 Gem and Mineral Show with over 3,000 attendees from 19 states and international visitors. Exhibits earned eight trophies and five blue ribbons from 41 displays, including a 272-pound Brazilian amethyst geode valued around 7500 dollars. Local dealers offered a wide range of wares as visitors explored cases and prizes such as blue topaz, smoky quartz, and carved wildlife pieces.

Gillespie County Records Its First Snowfall of Winter
Fredericksburg and Gillespie County saw its first snowfall of the season on Monday morning. Snow fell steadily from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. then largely melted by 1:30 p.m. It produced enough accumulation for small snowmen but not lasting snowballs, with five to six points of moisture and under a quarter inch of snow according to N J Dietel, the local weather observer.
