Hunters Close Season With Large Deer and Turkey Kills

Texans learned of two Social Security tax types under the Act. Title 9 applies to eight or more workers with a rising rate for employers. Title 8 taxes one or more employees and employers with an equal 1 percent payroll and 1 percent employee tax. Proceeds fund unemployment and old age benefits. Also reports a strong hunting season in Gillespie County with up to 2000 deer killed, abundant turkeys and ducks due to good pasture and rains.

The exam is held due to a shortage of male eligibles, offering good appointment prospects for those who qualify.

Court reverses Trimble murder conviction in Menard County

Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reverses and remands L. E. Trimble special ranger case for murder of W. R. Tomlinson, citing improper testimony and jury instruction. Opp case also reversed previously for improper prosecutorial comment. Tomlinson, a county commissioner and sheep rancher, was slain Nov. 27, 1934 over a pasture lease dispute.

We respond to a prior column arguing for abolishing the county court for criminal and civil cases. County Attorney Stehling says the piece implied officers were burdened by excessive fines and fees. He notes few county court cases could have been tried in justices court during his term and we publish his corrections.

Fire destroys Mason Hospital in Mason

Mason January 4 fire razed the 11 room Mason Sanitarium with furnishings valued at about two thousand dollars. The building, timber framed and 25 years old, was valued at eight thousand with partial insurance. One patient, C. H. Reeves a 14 year old burn victim, was moved to safety.

Safety Lane Tests Conducted At Fredericksburg

State safety department conducted a safety lane drill in Fredericksburg led by G. E. Schauer. Nine highway patrol officers tested brakes mufflers lights horns steering and wipers from Henke's Down Town Meat Market to a block end and later in the courthouse block despite showers.

Burnet Woman Shot To Death

Mrs. Lucille Corder 28 a Burnet waitress was shot and killed by her estranged husband Lee Corder in Burnet Texas this afternoon The husband then killed himself with a pistol suicide An eye witness Mrs Kate Joy said she drove to the cafe with the couple Corder had threatened to kill his wife if she did not return to Sonora The couple had been separated eight months Mrs Corder had recently applied for divorce in the 33rd District Court at Burnet Survivors include an eight year old daughter in Johnson City a brother Ted Lesley and her mother in Sonora This report is from S A Express

Allred Details Nine Point Legislative Program for Texas

Governor James V. Allred outlines a nine item program for the four month Texas regular session starting Tuesday.
