The column argues distance has vanished with autos and modern communications and cities must modernize to survive. It urges Fredericksburg to grow through active citizen and business cooperation, urging property owners and merchants to stop depending on others and to support incorporation.
Over several days, Rosa Treibs wed Hugo Feuge at M. KE with attendants Dina Treibs Else Feuge Benno Treibs and Edwin Moellering. Else Ottmers married Rubin Franz at the Ottmers home with Elvira Franz Ida Ottmers Ewald Hansen and Elgin Klier as attendants. Helga Peese married Arno Engel at Evangelical Church with Elise Peese Sophia Engel Harrys Gaumann and Edwin Peese as attendants. Hilda Baumann married Albert Mazinke at Zion's Church with Gertrude Wehmeyer Lottie Mazinke Randolph Jung attending. Erna Klaehn wed Wal Doss at an unnamed ceremony.
Fredericksburg merchants were duped by two men posing as ranchers from a neighboring county. They bought goods, issued postdated checks on a distant bank for more than the purchase price, and were seized by Kerr County officers after passing several checks at Kerrville. They are jailed in Gillespie County awaiting grand jury action.
A congenial gathering of relatives and friends surprised Isidor Wehmeyer and his wife at their Frederickburg home Sunday night to celebrate their twenty fifth silver wedding anniversary. The event featured games music singing and social time while The Standard extended best wishes for health happiness and many more such anniversaries. Miss Rosa Metzger returned from a visit to the Alamo city.
The Skating Rink at Peters Opera House will open Saturday night February 25. Skating will occur several nights each week. See the advertisement in this issue for details.
Rev K Konzack officiated Wednesday afternoon at three o clock for a wedding at the Evangelical Church. Attendants were Miss Katie Arhelger and Mr Adolf Klaehn. Mr and Mrs Itz will be at home at Doss. The Standard joins friends and relatives in wishing the couple a happy married life.
Rev F C Bohmfalk speaks at the unveiling of a tombstone for the Unknown girl memorial erected by the city Boy Scouts. He links the act to mercy and Christian faith noting parallels to national tributes and noting the ongoing duty of compassion.
Monday session of Gillespie County District Court opened with Judge J H McLean and DA F H Hammond. Grand jury organized with Wm Bratherich as foreman and John Morriss as clerk. Members include Ismil Merz Charles Herber Felix Jenschke Henry Sauer Emil Kott Adolf Gold Emil Herbert Holmes Moss Max Schmidt Louis Oehler. By press time fourteen bills of indictment had been returned nine felony cases and five misdemeanors.
Mrs Theo Langerhans aged 39 years 9 months 26 days died at the family home in Fredericksburg Monday night after illness with flu and pneumonia. Survived by husband Theodor and three daughters Nora Mathilde Opal, plus six brothers and five sisters. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 PM with Rev F W Radetzky. interment in city cemetery. Mrs R T DuBose and children of Dallas visiting the Weinheimer family.
In the 33rd Judicial District Gillespie County Texas February Term 1928 memorial services were held in Fredericksburg with invocations and eulogies. The local bar adopted a resolution praising Judge A W Moursund for his service on the bench and in the bar and directing publication of the tribute in the court minutes. Continued on page 7.
