Mrs. Claude Sageser hosted a miscellaneous shower in the Harper Hotel living room on Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Granville Barker formerly Miss Marguerite Bein. The room featured Christmas Colors and cakes with hot chocolate were served. Guests received many gifts and enjoyed the afternoon.
The Baptist Church venue was festively decorated with a large Christmas tree and colors. A lively children’s program delighted attendees as oranges were distributed and everyone enjoyed a merry gathering.
Victor Wendel of Seguin is spending the week at home. Clyde Floyd and Misses Cecil and Francis Floyd of Austin are visiting with friends and relatives here.
Miss Olga Strackbein of San Angelo is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Strackbein.
Mr and Mrs R Little and children spent Christmas visiting relatives in Junction.
Mr and Mrs Adolph Staudt of near Fredericksburg spent Tuesday visiting Mr and Mrs Frank Staudt.
Miss Lydia Whitewood a College student in San Antonio spent the holidays with relatives in town. Mr and Mrs Granville Barker of Marble Falls visited Mrs Barker's parents Mr and Mrs Chas E Bein for Christmas. Hubert Baumann a student in San Antonio spent Christmas vacation with his parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Baumann.
A heavy snow blanketed Harper and surrounding regions this week, with about eight inches reported in local areas and additional accumulation noted across nearby countryside.
The Hudson rural school district in Angelina County consolidates five small districts and orders a passenger truck from Lufkin wagon company to transport 50 children. The Lufkin News calls it the last word in transportation convenience and reports orders from other districts due to the quality of the initial vehicle.
A Pharr Texas horse owned by S. E. Tilton died after a chain tied to an electric post by a schoolboy slipped to a live wire. The horse struggled to free itself at Pharr Grammar School, ending in its electrocution.
Witness G. L. Callis saw the struggle of the horse and, while attempting to untie it, was shocked by a live wire with over 100 volts. Central Power and Light Company was notified, relieved the situation, and paid all damages incurred.
The petition filed November 25 1929 in District Court Gillespie County seeks absolute divorce for Lillie Wimberley and Joe Wimberley. It alleges marriage on September 24 1923, birth of Beatrice on May 14 1924, abuse and non support by the husband, and requests custody of the child along with termination of marital relations and general relief. Roger A. Stahl signs as Clerk.
