Gillespie County Red Cross reports total shipments and aid figures through November 20 including 2345 articles such as knitted garments surgical dressings and hospital supplies. Additional March and March relief pieces bring total to 1131 items. Junior Red Cross sent 2800 pounds peach seeds rugs and 140 soldiers cheer books. Nursing survey logged 16 nurses 89 Christmas parcels mailed to soldiers in France. Church drives yielded 69 Southern Methodist 18 St Marys Catholic and 9 Evangelical members. A correction notes the Fredericksburg Lyceum date is Monday December 23 not Tuesday. Ot Gillespie County received nearly three inches of rain from Tuesday afternoon to Friday morning with dry weather returning Friday. The Lanier Literary Society held a regular meeting last Friday with a varied program. Ellie Arbelger recited, Ethel Oehler performed a piano solo, Flora Wertheim and Ruby Riley played guitar accompaniment, and Max Wertheim with Clarence Traeger led character descriptions and jokes. The program also featured songs including Song Bol a Song Tramp Tramp and Columbia the Gem of the Ocean.
The Fredericksburg Lyceum Course opens with Schubert Ladies Sextette at Klaerner's Opera House on Monday night December 23. The renowned musical company promises a real musical treat and invites all to attend for an evening of pleasure.
In the regular meeting of Mountain Grove Circle No. 606 officers were elected for the coming year with Mrs. R. G. Striegler named past guardian and Stella Klaerner as guardian. Installation will occur at January meeting followed by luncheon. Messages from members’ sons in France report 21 days on the front and safe status with imminent homeward return.
