A long political screed argues that the future between Communism and Freedom remains a binary struggle until Communism is banished. It critiques wartime profiteering and U.S. leaders, praising a conservative presidential candidate while attacking opponents and advocating continued war efforts.
Hans Hannemann was re elected chairman of the HC Scouting District at its annual meeting in Liano. Ramsey Clinton, Layton Cox, and Rolan Schmidt were installed in senior posts, with Fredericksburg and Burnet leaders among those honored. The 12,000 scouts in the 15 county Capitol Area Council were noted as growing.
Funeral services for Felix C Heimann 78 were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Beekmann Funeral Home. The Holy Ghost Lutheran Church pastor Rev Lo J Darkop officiated. Heimann, longtime president of Lochte Storuie and Cuomayiseri Co., died Friday after a fall at his warehouse door while greeting a customer. Born January 16 in Gillespie County, he founded the firm in 1932 with Ernst F Lochte, transforming it from a small operation into a major wheel, mohair and train business in the Texas Hill Country.
Sgt Travis Weirich 25 son of Mr and Mrs Edwin Weirich of Fredericksburg died Thursday November 30 in an auto accident near Langernies Germany. Also killed was Sgt Gary Word 22 from the 1st Special Forces unit. Funeral arrangements to be announced by Beckmann Funeral Home. Survivors include his parents a brother Curtis and sister Janet.
The Presidents Ranch Trail expands to Fredericksburg extending a route along US 290 and Ranch Road 1 to Johnson City and San Marcos. The project aims to boost tourism by highlighting sites linked to President Johnson, with a three prize awards program for beautification along the trail corridor. Local residents along the route from Stonewall to Fredericksburg may participate in the program.
A. J. Holland, formerly deputy in the County Assessor and Collector office, has joined Clarence Zatopek's Driver's License Patrol to handle photos and fingerprints for new and renewal licenses as the State Department prepares for the new Driver's License Law taking effect January 1. He will photograph and fingerprint applicants in the local office.
The Fredericksburg Lions Club launches its second annual Christmas Tree sale Saturday December 9 in the White Elephant Building beside Keidel Drug Store on East Main Street. Over 700 trees available with Lions members working as salesmen daily 3 to 8 pm except weekends. Sales on Saturdays 11 am to 8 pm and Sundays 1 to 5 pm. Proceeds go to the Lions Light Conservation Fund.
Fredericksburg gears up for Santa Claus Day with a 10 a m parade starting at Kraus Corner, passing Nimitz Corner, then back to the courthouse park bandstand where Santa will give free candy and fruit. The event, led by Ruben Wahl and Leonard Becker, kicks off the Jaycees Christmas program including yard decoration contests with $10 and $15 prizes and a lighted yard prize, plus a Friday shopping tour on Dec 22 and coin boxes in city shops.
Vans will handle the greatest mail rush in the Post Office Department history for the 1967 Christmas season. Special trucks will operate between Fredericksburg and Austin, delivering and collecting mail to speed delivery and save up to 24 hours when mailed before noon.
Claude Stewart presents a substantial check to Mrs. L. A. Rowntree and Mrs. Rudy Offers Jr as the Music Study Club completes a three week run of The Sound of Music. Funds support retiring the piano debt from Milam Hall in the McDermott Building.
Joyce Meier won the senior division of the District 5 6 Make It With Wool contest at Schleicher County High School Eldorado on December 2. Her prize included a free trip to the state contest January 5 6 at Stephen F Austin College Nato cogdoches where she will compete.
Fredericksburg community to host talks on rising narcotics use. Dr. E Shell, with two decades of national experience, will address students at Fredericksburg Public School and St Marys School on Tuesday December 13. An evening session for adults follows at 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.
