Santa Claus Arrives for Fredericksburg Christmas Parade

The Fredericksburg Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors Santa’s visit on Saturday December 6 at 10 am. He will ride a red fire truck down Main Street, form a parade route from Kraus Corner to Nimitz Museum Corner, and return to Court House Square to hand out toy bags with Jaycee helpers.

New Bridge Planned Across Pedernales River at Stonewall

District Engineer Tom Woods says a 3.5 mile Farm to Market Road project in Stonewall County includes a new bridge over the Pedernales River replacing the low water Y bridge. The Texas Highway Commission approved the plan at its November meeting with an estimated construction cost of 222 400 dollars. The route extends from US 290 in Stonewall north to RM 2721.

Missionary James E. Tims to Speak at First Methodist

The Rev. James E. Tims of Crowley Texas will speak at the First United Methodist Church Sunday December 7 at 11 a m. He has served in Brazil, directed farm programs, and helped build churches and schools. He and his wife Nancy Schisler have three children.

Metzger Rites Set For Friday In Fredericksburg

John W. Metzger 75 a leading pioneer merchant civic figure died unexpectedly at his home in Fredericksburg. He co founded the Knapp and Metzger Department Store and Supermarket in 1919. Funeral services set for Friday December 7 at Schaetter Funeral Chapel then St Marys Church with store closures Wednesday through Friday.

Six More Divorces Granted in Local District Court

Six additional divorces were granted in Second 38th District Court over recent weeks as the session proves prolific. Cases include Hildegard Fiedler vs Kermit Fiedler and Liza Stewart vs William Ward Stewart, among others. Court recess ends Monday with criminal cases set to resume and a civil jury trial planned for next Wednesday, District Clerk Alfred Petmecky said.

St. Marys Indians Aim for State Title in Friday Showdown

The St. Marys Indians seek their second Texas Catholic Interscholastic League Class AA state crown in as many years with a 9 2 record facing Victoria Flyers 5 6 at FHS Stadium Friday night at 7 30. Mike Kramer leads with 10 touchdowns while Harry Kuhlmann gains 768 yards and adds 7 scores. The game follows semifinal wins with St. Marys 301 points scored to 109 allowed and Victoria 156 to 158.

Pioneer Rural Home Destroyed by Fire

A two story frame Pioneer rural home once occupied by the Fred Gold family in the Rheingold community burned early Friday afternoon. Hunters from the Texas Coast, including Bob Pursley Eddie Weeks of Clute and Dan Felder of Angleton, lost most of their gear and personal items. Fire officials and neighbors battled the blaze but it engulfed a large portion of the building before being contained.

Red Cross Seeks Donors for 100 Pint Blood Drive

Gillespie County calls for volunteers to donate at the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on Friday December 5 from 1 to 7 p.m. in Community Savings Center Hall First Methodist Church will sponsor with Mrs Marion Smathers in charge and Harry Hartmann urging all residents to participate to meet the 100 pint quota and support blood needs statewide.

Tractor Safety Demonstrations Set For December 3 and 4

About 1000 farm students in the county will view a safety demonstration at Fredericksburg and Harper high schools and St Marys High School. Dale Morgan of the Texas Farm Bureau will show a film and discuss safeguards like tool-guards crush-proof cabs seat belts and SMV emblems to prevent tractor accidents.

4000th Telephone Is Installed Here Monday

The General Telephone Company of the Southwest installed Fredericksburg's 4000th telephone at the home of Mr and Mrs William Hansen Jr 132 Ridgewood Drive Carriage Hills Addition. The ceremony featured Rutland Cornelius and Walter Edwards with Mayor Henke and Larry Wallendorf.
