James W. Gerard, former ambassador to Germany, claims fifty nine men govern the nation while a large public majority remains unseen. He notes President and cabinet members except Mellon do not appear in the ruling list and suggests the true movers avoid political office.
A suggested drive for copper producers to move surplus copper as thin sheets at about 15 cents per pound, using mail order houses and hardware stores for wide distribution. The note asks how many sheets per pound, why copper sheets beat tin or galvanized iron, and urges a persistent farm and rural newspaper ad campaign. It also references a Bucharest dispatch on King Carol's remarriage plans and notes Lenin’s rise.
Ross Sterling the Democratic governor candidate will choose the state Democratic executive committee chair. Alfred Petsch of Fredericksburg is seen as Sterling’s likely convention leader and future House of Representatives speaker.
Christine Kensing Baumann born March 23 1857 at Squaw Creek Gillespie County married Jacob Baumann December 24 1875. After stroke years she died at Ada Laudon’s home near Fredericksburg August 22 aged 73 years 4 months 23 days. Funeral at St Marys Church with Father Heckmann. Survived by husband two daughters two sons twenty three grandchildren five great grandchildren two sisters two brothers and numerous relatives. One daughter predeceased her.
Brenham Texas August 23 the seventh annual Texas Skat tournament will be held in Brenham Sunday August 31 The State Skat League officers and executive committee are listed with members from Austin San Antonio Brenham Fredericksburg and other cities The 1930 tournament rules committee includes members from Austin Fredericksburg and Lawrence Attorneys are from Austin Brenham and one other city Six State tournaments were held previously in Austin San Antonio New Braunfels Fredericksburg and Austin with dates from 1924 to 1929.
Herman Pahl aged 66 years 10 months 12 days was found dead Friday morning at his Luckenbach ranch residence from a self-inflicted gunshot. Born October 10, 1863, he married Elizabeth Kleck on October 20, 1885. Survived by widow, two children Clemens Pahl and Mrs. Wm Sabban, five grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, a sister and a brother. services held Saturday at 3 pm with interment in City Cemetery conducted by Rev A Koerner.
Mrs Ludwig Schmidt aged 75 years 1 month 5 days died at her daughter Mrs Paul Presslers home Wednesday morning at 9 25. Funeral services held Friday morning at 10 from Paul Presslers residence and the M E Church conducted by Rev Brannies with interment in City Cemetery obit to follow in next issue
The Public School Auxiliary sponsors the final summer play night at Court House Park on Friday August 29. Refreshments including cake ice cream and soda water will be sold to defray expenses. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
Revs Raeke from Mason and Traeger from Hilda paid the county office a pleasant visit on Friday of this week, meeting staff and discussing local concerns.
Albert Knopp is back at his old job at the Palace Theater and asks friends to visit him there.
William Schroeder Jr announces a new garage in the building once housing Standard Buick Co. He has years of experience as a mechanic with Standard Motor Co and Standard Buick Co and wishes him success.
Sunday closed the forty fifth Gillespie County Fair with strong exhibitor turnout and outstanding displays across beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, and agriculture. Awards praise Wm Roeder and Elgin Rothmann among multi-class champions, highlighting renewed local cooperation and a robust fair legacy.
The Fredericksburg Lions Club passed a resolution to supervise seining of two creeks to save fish dying as pools dry. A dedicated committee led seining with Boy Scouts and locals, saving 3250 perch and 1900 bass placed in permanent pools. Game Warden Henry Keller aided, with support from the State Fish and Oyster Commission.
The first week of grand jury work produced 13 bills of indictment. Twelve target Max Blum for forgery and one accuses Finis Fitzgerald of possession of liquor for sale. The grand jury adjourned Thursday and will reconvene Monday, September 1.
Max Blum admitted guilty to 19 forgery cases and 2 embezzlement cases in a Monday trial, one embezzlement count dismissed for lack of evidence. Total 47 years penitentiary time assigned across 20 cases. Blum jailed pending sentence pronouncement by Judge McLean before transfer to state prison.
Mr. Eddie Kott and Edgar Kolmeier spent Thursday in Austin on business. They engaged in meetings and followed up with local contacts to advance ongoing work.
The run-off primary tally shows Sterling ahead by 91 366 as of latest counts with 95 counties reporting. total votes reached 845 316 though some counties had unreported ballots. Sterling leads in governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and railroad commissioner races with varied margins. Gillespie County nationwide record turnout noted. county returns continued on page 2.
In district court Judge J. H. McLean fined and jailed Otto Seipp for contempt after he refused to answer questions from the state's attorney regarding a local youth suspected of pistol carrying. Seipp testified the youth offered a pistol at his store but denied knowledge of the case and having appeared before the grand jury. The three day jail term and $100 fine were served after jail placement by Sheriff Alfred Klaerner.

Grade A dairy listings include Max Braungam Alfred Lehne Alfred and Harry Boos V R Guffy Edward Schlaudt Walter Jost. Felix Boos dairy rated Grade B. Two dairies under construction awaiting grading.
Nellie, daughter of Mr Bodo Habenicht, fractured her arm in a fall last Tuesday night while at play.
Werner twelve year old son of Willie Schumann of the Albert community broke his right arm just above the wrist while working on his father’s farm Saturday of last week.
