Epworth League Sessions Set for Fredericksburg Area

The Epworth leagues of Gillespie Mason and Llano Counties plan a two day meeting in Fredericksburg starting Tuesday at 8 PM at the M E Church South. Wednesday sessions run 9 AM to 8 PM at Klaerner Park Live Oak with multiple league programs and lectures including Dr O A Ullrich and Dr Phil Deschner.

First Bale of Gillespie County Cotton for 1928

The first bale of Gillespie County cotton for the 1928 season weighed 600 pounds and was raised by Alonzo Faught of the Doss Community as reported by Wm. Rosenbach on Thursday. Also noted are visits by Max Wertheim of Beaumont to Fredericksburg and several local family travels and births.

Otis Bowers Arrested on Forgery Charges by Sheriff Klaerner

Alfred Klaerner arrested Otis Bowers last Tuesday on three forgery counts. An examining trial Friday sent him to jail to await Grand Jury action. A warrant issued Monday led to a two day capture after weeks of county-wide pursuit.

Death of August Lorenz at 72 in Eckert Community

August Lorenz died at his home August 13 at 3 AM aged 72 years 6 months 1 day. Born Castell February 12 1856 he moved to Fredericksburg as a child and married Clara Herber in 1879. Survived by widow Clara and children Alfred Emil Frida Edwin Harry Selma Lorenz plus extended relatives. four children preceded him in death. Funeral Tuesday at four o'clock with Rev Flachmeier officiating. interment in city cemetery. Mr and Mrs Alfred Ruebsahm of Baytown visited Fredericksburg relatives.

West Texas Chamber Motorcade Arrives in Fredericksburg

The West Texas Chamber of Commerce motorcade reached Fredericksburg on Tuesday at 4 00 PM and was warmly welcomed by the local chamber. A park reception with cake and refreshments followed, then a two thousand strong crowd enjoyed a Simmons Cowboy band concert and speeches by local and visiting officials.

Mr. and Mrs Wm Kusenberger celebrated their fifty year union at Klaerner's Park three miles from Fredericksburg. The ceremony was by Rev Christian Koch at the old Vereinskirche. The couple, aged 73 and 74, hosted over a hundred guests from Menard Austin San Antonio and Boerne with a German poem, flowers, and a long banquet under pecan trees.

Gillespie County Fair Opens With Governor Moody to Speak

The Gillespie County Fair will open Friday with Gov. Dan Moody delivering the opening address at 11 o'clock. Organizers urge producers to bring quality exhibits especially poultry, offer free entry, cash prizes, and hire staff for fowl care. The three day event features polo, races, ball games, and the Donald McGregor Shows, with plans for large crowds and expanded racing purses.
