A football training camp starts August 28 at Klaerner's Park directed by Coach Chester Klaerner offering high school boys general coaching in football and other sports. Eligible are boys who joined spring training with Coach Westerfeldt and plan to play football in September.
John P. Burg longtime Stonewall area resident died at his Fredericksburg home Sunday morning at age 99 from apoplexy. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon by the Order of the Sons of Herman with interment in Catholic Cemetery. Burg was born October 19, 1851 in Lower South Grape Creek and lived through Civil War era hardships before moving to Gillespie County.
Fredericksburg faces serious water contamination risk as surface runoff taints shallow aquifers. Geology shows granite at depth 110 to 118 feet overlain by limestone, gravel and Cambrian sandstone, with water-bearing strata above and below these layers. Sterling Wendel son of Mr and Mrs Emil Wendel of Cherry Mountain was severely injured Sunday afternoon when he fell from his horse while attempting to rope a goat on the Charles Holly Ranch. He slid along the ground sustaining injuries to the shoulder head and other parts and was unconscious for nearly twelve hours. He is reported to be improving under the circumstances.
