Edwin Hopf and Lottie Keyser united in marriage at Castell home of Jno Keyser. Rev B Schlei fer officiated. Groom son of Mrs E C Hopf near Harper, bride from local community. Nearly 100 relatives attended, extending wishes for happiness. Post ceremony feast held. Newlyweds to reside on ranch near Harper in the county.
A clearance sale features 100 pair tennis shoes for ladies misses men and boys priced to move. Shop offers include varied sizes with emphasis on value and quick sale.
A Fredericksburg Red Cross Chapter box to headquarters includes 10 bed jackets 10 winter pajamas 5 bed shirts and 7 hospital bed jackets from multiple donors. A letter from France praises Red Cross work and gratitude from troops overseas. The chapter also notes a $82.75 donation from Holy Ghost Church members.
A service flag with fifty one stars was dedicated last Sunday at Holy Ghost Church. Pastor Rev. M. O. Puhl led a dedicatory service honoring church members serving in the U S Army. The crowded pews held parents relatives and friends as the list of 51 young soldiers from the parish was read, including Henry Selumeider Hermann Weirich Otto Grona Hugo Weirich Felix Seelig and many others.
Gillespie County Unit of the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense held its first regular meeting at the courthouse. Department chairmen announced committees for Child Welfare Food Conservation Health and Recreation Education and more. The group planned a recreation week before school and a books and magazines drive for army hospitals and soldiers centers. Five nurse enrollments were reported with hopes for more.
Fredericksburg Ladies Auxiliary adopts the name Public School Auxiliary to admit gentlemen. Initiation 25 cents, dues 10 cents monthly. Plans a future play titled A Womanless Wedding starring 52 business men directed by Miss Laura Arbelger. Proceeds to aid school work. Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for support after the death of T. N. Lee.
Listener seeks 1 to 1000 head of feeder hogs weighing 60 pounds and up. Payment offered from 8 to 43 cents per pound depending on grade or condition. Inquiries directed to R Maier & Sons at the corner with only five at their location.
A large native audience attended Concordia singing club last night for a varied program led by Hopt's Orchestra. The concert featured piano duets, a nine scene tableau with Red Cross nurses and soldiers, and a finale by the orchestra and chorus. The door take of 130 will fund War Saving Stamps and surgical supplies for the Red Cross, after expenses.
Fred Rahe son of Mr John Rahe was badly bruised when a horse he rode fell and pinned him near Harper on Thursday of last week. The horse galloped and the injuries were serious though not life threatening. He was reported rapidly recovering.
Mr. August Langerhans was bedbound several days after a poisonous spider bite in Kerrville on Friday while asleep on a porch. He grew ill on the way home and a Kerrville doctor treated him. upon arrival a local physician gave further care. The bite left his lower body numb briefly.
