Rains Bring Wet Relief To Dry Gillespie County

Wet weekend rains brought relief to Gillespie County with Fredericksburg totals at 2.20 inches and countywide up to 3.20 inches in some areas. The broader region notes this is the first substantial moisture since December 24, leaving Fredericksburg about 1.45 inches behind last year’s year to date and 1.83 inches short of the three month norm. Fredericksburg City backs petition for lower utility rates

The Fredericksburg City Commission unanimously approved a petition, circulated by the Lower Colorado River Authority, seeking relief from rising natural gas fueled electric costs. Citizens may sign at City Hall as area municipalities and cooperatives join in action to curb high electric bills and challenge Railroad Commission orders.

Nina Nixon Named First Miss Gillespie County at Pageant

Nina Nixon, 16, Fredericksburg High School junior, was crowned the first Miss Gillespie County as the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association merged its queen title with the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce Miss Fredericksburg honor. Duchesses include Rhonda Ernst and Connie Stewart. Little Miss and Little Mister Gillespie County were Karen Ann Kothe and Grant Wade Meyer.

Fredericksburg Officials and Trustees Win Four County Elections

In Gillespie County's two major elections, Fredericksburg voters re-elected Mayor Sidney M. Henke and incumbents Pat Pyka and Ewald Geistweidt to the city commission. New FISD trustees Melvin Bonn and Theo Lindig led in their race, while other districts elected Werner Durst, James Baethge, Max Hartmann, and local winners to the Gillespie County School Board. turnout totaled 846 for the FISC contest, with 524 votes in the city race and swearing-in set for April 30.

Hill Country Arena Rodeo Crowning Saturday Night

A Hill Country Rodeo Queen will be crowned at 6 30 p m at the Hill Country Rodeo Arena just before the 7 30 p m rodeo. Three age groups seniors 14 18 juniors 10 13 and peewees under 9 compete with events and belt buckles awarded to winners. The Lester Meier Rodeo Company of Fredericksburg produces the event with Oliver Rode as chairman and HCHC members assisting.

Absentee Voting Opens for Gillespie Primaries

Gillespie County Clerk Doris Lange announces absentee voting for the Democratic and Republican primaries, set for May 1. Ballots available April 12 through April 27 in person. out of town voters may request absentee ballots by letter. Voters over 65 may mail ballot. others must vote in person, with ballots expected to be on hand at start.

Garden of Peace completed at Admiral Nimitz Center

Japanese craftsmen highlighted the completion of the Garden of Peace at the Admiral Nimitz Center with an appreciation party on museum grounds. The event honored American craftsmen and Nimitz Center personnel who helped build the garden, sponsored by Meiji Seisakusho with Taketora Saita present.

Fredericksburg Miss Flame pageant set for Monday

Kathy Welton will crown 1976 Miss Flame Monday night at Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department. The event at the Municipal Building Assembly Hall begins at 8 p.m. and will include a runner up selection. High school girls may apply by Friday April 9.
