League president Shafer to step back after long service
The league’s longtime commissioner, now 60, manages fields, umpires, concessions and infields with help from volunteers. Treasurer John Dinterman credits him for keeping the league organized and competitive, while Shafer plans to remain involved but reduce duties after this final year. He runs two laundries and still logs about 40 hours weekly. He aims to mentor successors as many contributors deserve credit.
