State bears in Maryland spark call for regulated hunt
The 1991 plan proposed a limited bear hunting season to manage Maryland’s growing black bear population shared with Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Despite rising nuisance complaints and crop damage, Governor Glendening’s administration has opposed hunting, while local lawmakers push HB 10 to require a regulated season by Oct. 1, 2002.
