Immunization Clinics Schedule At Local Schools
Health department immunization clinics opened yesterday at Kyle and Otter Creek schools with sessions planned for Sealy and Otto schools tomorrow. Additional clinics set for Kyle Otter Creek July 6 and 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Sealy and Otto clinics on Friday and July 15 with Sealy 10 a.m. to noon and Otto 1 30 to 3 p.m. Vaccines offered include diphtheria whooping cough and smallpox for preschoolers. Parents urged to accompany children when possible. The Ashear building health offices close Monday July 4 and reopen Tuesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for preschool clinic, note says.

Whittier and Franklin Seek Short Cut Road Plan
Citizens of Whittier plan a petition to county officials to build a new road between Whittier and Franklin. The proposed route would run along the Franklin Biion City highway via Leatherman and Leatherman gaps to Whittier, shortening the distance by about ten miles. The decision followed an enthusiastic mass meeting in Whittier Saturday and petitions will be circulated in Macon and Swain counties.

Postmaster Examination Announced for Franklin Post

Clark's Chapel Commencement Held After Vacation Bible School
Clark's Chapel Methodist Church wrapped up last week's Vacation Bible School on Sunday. The school enrolled 75 children and drew strong attendance. Mrs. Elizabeth Sparkman served as principal with Ms George Doster as associate. Primary teachers were Miss Catherine Cape Miss Helen Jones and Miss Ruth Ray. Junior teachers included Mrs. George Doster Miss Gaynell Vanhook and Miss Darlis Sutton. Intermediate teachers were Mrs. Elizabeth Sparkman Miss Evelyn Ray and Miss Candler Gray.

Will Discuss Buying School As Area Center
The Ignon willy Schoolhouse may be purchased to serve as a community building with a meeting set for Saturday at 2 PM. The current building will be surplus once the Ellijay school now under construction is completed. The session was called by Fred Corbin. Mrs Slagle, of Caroogechaye, was seriously ill Monday night but improved to be moved to Harris Community Hospital in Sylva by her son Dr. R D Slagle.

Franklin to Tear Down Old Fence for New Cyclone Metal Fence
A Franklin meeting approved tearing down the old wooden fence around the allete field and installing a Cyclone Fence system from Charlotte at a bid of 2 70. The plan includes three strands of barb wire on metal posts set in 36 inches of concrete, with honey suckle plants for screen. Financing via advertising on the south side of the field was discussed, with a committee appointed to work with Cyclone and raise funds for 1 200 extra seats.

Dress Revue Set By Macon County 4-H Girls
4-H Club in Macon County will stage its annual Dress Revue at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Agricultural Building. Contestants will be split into junior and senior groups with awards in each. The senior winner receives a free trip to Raleigh for the state Dress Revue, while judges include Miss Mary Johnston, Mrs. Porter Scruggs, and Miss Dorothy Wilkinson. A Wear and Care Clothing demonstration by 4-H girls accompanies the event, with district contest participation on July 14 here. County winners from Swain, Jackson, Clay, Cherokee, Graham and Macon will compete in the district contest.

Porter Paid Tribute On Retirement

Forest Service Repairs Flood Damaged Arrowood Roads
Forest Service crews work through the week restoring road damage in Arrowood Glade and on nearby forest roads after floods. Supervisor B. W. A July Fourth program sponsored by the local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be held Monday on West Main Street with contests for children and adults, boxing bouts at the courthouse, a baseball game in the afternoon, and a square dance at Slagle Memorial building. Prizes donated by local merchants will total at least $250 each. Post officers and committees led by VFW Commander 2 W Shope coordinate the day as businesses and offices close for the holiday.
