J M Daves 92 of Franklin Route 2 one of Macon county’s four remaining Confederate veterans left Wednesday for Gettysburg to attend the first of July reunion. He rode with his son Joe Daves as the local group includes S W Picklesimer Otto and William E Roper Briartown J W Caldwell Franklin Route 3 transferred from Haywood and James Deal colored.

New County Building Ready for Use and Access Upgrades
The new brick county building, 58 by 70 feet with basement, is complete and occupied. It houses County Agent Mendenhall, Assistant Sam Williams, staff offices, and a fireproof vault. A demonstration room with electric range and built in cabinets, potential farmers market room, eight display tables, and a 30 by 39 foot auditorium are included. WPA labor funded the $8,000 project, half paid by the federal government. Grounds will be landscaped, with parking gravelled and cross street access improved.

Bradley A Brack Bradley Funeral Rites Held At Otto
Funeral services for A Brack Bradley 77 were held Tuesday at the Asbury Methodist church Otto with Rev J C Swaim in charge. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Bradley died Monday afternoon after a stroke in Otto. He was a farmer and longtime member of Asbury Methodist church. He is survived by his widow Elizabeth Cabe and 12 children.

Vacant East Franklin House Burns in Overnight Fire
A vacant house owned by A. W. Reid and known as the Lyle Jones place in East Franklin burned at about 3 a.m. Wednesday. The entire structure was in flames when discovered and firefighters could not save it. The vacant building offered no clues to the cause of the fire.

Poison charge case ends with two held in jail
Nathan Brendle and Mrs. Lawrence Mason are held in Macon county jail on murder charges after a coroner inquest into the death of Lawrence Mason at Mrs. Vincy Haskett's home. Testimony says a drink of whiskey tainted with poison was given, with Walter Pressley present. Five Franklin physicians found deadly poison in Mason’s stomach and the liquor. The coroner’s jury ruled Mason’s death the result of poison in whiskey and named Brendle as the producer of the drink, with Pressley to be held as a material witness.
