Patrolman Captures Stolen Car
A Georgia prison escapee and two other men were arrested Sunday on US 441 south of Franklin by Highway Patrolman H Z Ferguson. They were driving a 1960 Chevrolet reported stolen in Atlanta on June 24. Ward Madison Wise Andrew of Madison Wisconsin was the driver, with two hitchhikers. He had stolen plates and fictitious papers for the car and was held in federal custody pending further investigation.

Taylor Wins Short Term Congress Seat In North Carolina
In Macon County voters Taylor led with 1910 votes to 38 write ins for Heinz Rollman. Rollman withdrew but still received 33 write ins. Franklin’s Angel and Burston, Clark, and Bryson each had a few write ins. Final totals show Taylor 28,508 votes to 25,513 for Lake with 69western write ins. Sanford and Dr. Lake contested the race and Sanford will meet Gavin in November. Main issue cited was North Carolina public schools and the Perennial Plan.

Funeral for William Cloer Held at Cashiers Church
William Thad Cloer 73 retired lumberman died recently and funeral services were held Thursday at Cashiers Baptist Church with burial in Wood Cemetery. He was a 1807-born Macon County native son of Jacob and Annie Cloer and longtime superintendent of Gennett Lumber Co. of Asheville. Survivors include his widow Pearl Cloer four sons seven daughters and many grandchildren. Moody Funeral Home of Sylva arranged.
