Fourth of July program to be held in Macon County
The Macon county post of the American Legion plans a full Fourth of July program with a parade at 10 a.m. and an old fashioned fiddlers' contest in the evening. Senator Robert R. Reynolds is invited to speak at 11:30 a.m. but has not replied. Parade entries may win $7 or $3, with prizes for best organization, decorated float, or individual. The Cherokee Indian band will provide music and events include bicycle, three-legged, sack races, a road race and a terrapin race.

Funeral services for James Nas an Mason aged 67 were held at the Conlist church Friday afternoon. The Rev Mayberr pastor assisted by the Rev A Cloer conducted the service. He died at Maton Branch Thursday afternoon from a stroke of paralysis suffered a month earlier. Pallbearers were Wade Pickens Oscar Mason Marvin Pickens Graham Cleet Mayd Mason and Till Tones. Macon Farmers Refinanced Debt With Federal Loans
A Farm Credit administration report shows $85,900 in Macon County farm mortgage loans from June 1 to May 1934 for refinancing debts. About $22,$220, or 872 percent of the total, went to refinance and reduce annual interest. Loans funded new mortgages to repay old debts, with creditors benefiting from cash or bond exchanges. Of the refinancing funds, roughly $10,100 repaid bank debts, $3,400 taxes, $18,700 other creditors, and about $4,700 of total county loans served purposes beyond refinancing.

Former Highlands Woman Dies in Grass Range Montana
Mrs. Laurabelle C. Carpenter, a former Highlands resident, died at her Grass Range Montana home on Friday June from a heart attack while apparently sleeping. Her husband died in 1907 and she left Macon County in 194. Her father Sumner Clark once supervised Macon County schools and she taught in local schools before moving west. She is sister-in-law of Mrs. Moody Bolick of this county.
