Demorest Chief Thompson Resigns to Lead Demorest Police
As Demorest Chief H. Thompson, night policeman since April 1, resigns effective July 1 to accept the Demorest, Ga. chief of police post. Thompson will leave Monday and start duties Tuesday morning. His resignation was accepted by the board of aldermen Wednesday. No successor is yet chosen. Thompson noted negotiations with Demorest authorities began before he left Franklin and thanked the Franklin mayor, aldermen, and local residents for support.

Charlie Slagle Dies From Bull Related Injury
Charlie Slagle 25 of Franklin died from infection after being gored in the abdomen by a bull at his father's farm last Saturday. He returned from Army service in 1945 and was active in community work as an American Legion commander, Rotarian, Scout master, and Eagle Scout. Funeral Monday at 4 pm at Franklin Methodist Church with burial in Franklin cemetery. survivors include his parents and four sisters.

Mishaps strike a community with injuries and deaths
A string of weekend accidents left John Girardy Archer 12 severely injured after a bicycle crash on Harrison Avenue. He died days later in hospital. Joe G Adams, a bookkeeper, suffered burns and pneumonia after a house fire and was in critical condition. Jonathan Sage was killed by a bull at a dairy barn. Nancy Jones died from a diving accident in the Hudson River.

R L Bryson Dies After Long Illness at Age 7
R L Bryson long known figure in the region died at his home on Totala street Tuesday afternoon after weeks of illness. He had been a traveling salesman for 25 years covering Georgia Alabama and North Carolina before entering the hotel business. Interment will be at a local church with services by the Franklin Beptist church.

Boy Burned When Gas Is Poured Into Auto
A 12-year-old boy in the Gneiss community was severely burned while gasoline poured from a bucket into a Webb vehicle. The fire caught as the father, Webb, tossed the bucket, causing flames to strike the boy who stood nearby. Webb suffered burns on his hands. the injured boy was being treated at Angel clinic.

Nancy H Jones dies in Hudson River diving mishap
Nancy Harriette Jones, 27, a Duke nursing graduate and Army nurse corps veteran, died during a Hudson River dive. Her funeral was held at Franklin Methodist Church with flag-draped services and burial in Franklin cemetery. Survivors include her parents, siblings, and grandparents. Relatives from Rhode Island, Memphis, Raleigh, Asheville, and Franklin attended a family reunion when the accident occurred.

Franklin voters approve bonds well above legal minimum
In Franklin a special bond election showed strong support for water sewer and street bonds totaling 120000. Water bonds passed 439 to 128, sewer 426 to 141, and street 420 to 130, with turnout counting nonvoters as opposed. The results mark the third pro bonds vote in six months and reflect adjustments to the total amount.
