Plans for Macon county 21 year old registrants
The local draft board in Macon county finalizes plans for registering men who turned 21 since the last call. Registration will occur at the Ashear building office from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m, with board members, advisory members, and two voluntary registrars Miss Myrtle Boxick and Mildred Bryson. Harold Bryson died during a tonsil operation. He had lived in Concord three years and planned to live with his father in Whittier. L L Green officiated with Rev J L Stokes assisting. Water System Improvements Completed by WPA in Highlands
The Works Project Administration finished a six mile water main build and new Brush Creek intake dam and pumping station doubling Highlands water supply. The project added storage capacity of about one million gallons, fenced fire lines, and upgraded old intake dam. Town officials W W Edwards and J O Abbe led the effort with Asheville engineer Arnold H Van derhoof supervising construction. Highlands reports the project completed satisfactorily and beneficial for years.

Mrs Arie Moore Rites Held at Rose Creek Church
Mrs Arie Moore of Wests Mill died at her home after a period of illness. She was born in Rose Creek, a daughter of the late Wilburn Welch and Amanda Davis Welch, and was a Rose Creek Baptist member. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 3 pm at Rose Creek Baptist Church by Rev C C Welch. burial followed in the church cemetery. Surviving are her husband Sam R Moore, four children Fred and Arthur Moore of Pontiac Michigan, Lee Moore of Wests Mill Mind, and Mrs Elsie McGlothan of Pink Gap NC, and 12 grandchildren.

Theodore Gregory 35 died Tuesday at Angel hospital after a six day illness. He was a farmer from Mountain Grove, Macon county, unmarried and living with his mother Elmira Parker Gregory. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Rev. William Breedlove officiating. burial followed in the church cemetery. Surviving are four sisters including Mrs. J. B. Ammons.

July 4th Celebration Calendar of Events
The Fourth of July Celebration Committee sponsors a day of games and contests for all ages. Activities include sack and wheelbarrow races, a three leg race, egg race, fifty yard dash, bull frog jump, tricycle race, watermelon grab, horseshoe pitching, a baseball game with Greasy Pig and Bicycle Race during play, followed by a 4 PM President's Speech and Flag Dedication with an oath of allegiance and street dancing.
Funeral Rites For Mrs Ellen Cunningham
Mrs Ellen Cunningham 70 died at her son Walter Cunningham home on Franklin Route 4 after five months illness from heart trouble. Born April 19 1871 she was the former Ellen Jacobs wife of Sam Cunningham who died years ago. She was a Franklin Baptist church member and last of the John Jacobs family. Funeral at Clark's Chapel Methodist Church with Rev Green Rev Williams and Rev Flanagan officiating. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by seven sons Walter Harry George Roy Cunningham Cart Waynesville Fred Paul and two daughters Mrs J B Sherrill of Enka and Miss Essie Cunningham of Franklin plus 17 grandchildren. The Fourth of July celebration plans include games races a baseball game greasy pig chase prize drawings and a Roosevelt broadcast with flag ceremony and allegiance oath. Prizes listed donated by local merchants with cash or merchandise options. Lee Poindexter has captured the wild pig for the greasy pig event.
