Wake officials approve radio ad spend for town board and chamber
The Wake Town Board and Chamber of Commerce directors vote to spend 150 dollars on radio time on WAKE. A separate 180 dollar figure is noted for joint advertising. Methodist Annex Job is Started at Franklin Church
Excavation for a west wing annex to the Methodist Church began last week with construction due to start by July first. E. J. Whitmire, finance committee chair, said orders for materials are placed and delivery sought this month. The three story addition will hold five Sunday School rooms on the ground floor. The second floor will host a ladies lounge and four classrooms for men and women, while the third floor adds an assembly room and four more rooms. Upon completion the current basement will be used as an assembly and social hall. Plans were approved by the congregation in December.

Nikwasi Mound Secures Insurance Policy For Preservation
The Nikwasi Indian Mound in Franklin, a historic Macon County monument, was purchased for 1500 dollars and ceded to the town to be preserved for posterity. Gilmer A. Jones conceived the project with 143 donors giving from a penny to 100 dollars to ensure the mound remains unexcavated and noncommercial. The Carpenter tram deeded to the town dated October 8, 1946, completing the protection effort.

Farmers Must Sign For Wheat Allotment 1954
Macon farmers who did not seed wheat on land in 3691-58 may apply for a 1954 Wheat acreage allotment at the Local Production Marketing Administration office in the agricultural building. JH Enloe Jr, county chairman, said applications must be in writing to PACA committee by June 30 to be considered. A daily vacation Bible school will be held at Asbury Methodist Church Monday through Tuesday at 7:30 pm, featuring a Bible study for adults.

Highlands Hospital Reports Laceration Day Incidents
Highlands Hospital reports multiple laceration cases on a Wednesday including a highway crash on Horse Cove Road injuring a 28 year old driver David Jones and a front seat passenger. Police say a station wagon struck a pine tree after Jones tried to steady the child. Both sustained head injuries and were treated and released. A separate accident at Steve's County Store left a worker with a cut to the left hand. No charges were filed.
