Five escapees remain at large after a prison breakout at Taree. Charles Rose, serving life for first degree murder, fled from a Highlands road work detail as buckshot from guard shots allegedly warned off pursuit. Prison camp guards intensified search. Another inmate, Charles Ricker of Monheim Tennessee, escaped a week earlier.

Billy Fink in Headlines Again After Gastonia Accident
The Gastonia Gazette reports seven year old Billy Fink asked if his name would again appear in newspapers after being struck by a car in Gastonia. Previously, he was injured by a falling tombstone two years earlier, a prior incident that put him in The Franklin Press, Gastonia Gazette, and The New York Times. He is the grandson of W. H. Rogers of Highlands and the late Mrs. Rogers. At Buck Creek cemetery he was injured by a tombstone, hospitalized ten days, and lost nine permanent teeth. Ely is the son of Eugene and Mrs. Fink of Gastonia.

Truck Parking Ordinance Adopted by Highlands Officials
Highlands board of commissioners adopted an ordinance restricting parking for trucks over one and a half tons on Main and Fourth Streets within the fire zone, except for loading and unloading. The meeting also deferred action on police Chief W. Russell Paxton’s resignation, which he said stemmed from lack of cooperation and excessive weekly hours. The action followed a dispute with D. E. Young Jr over roadside parking near the Highlands Art Gallery.

Fish hatchery stock releases bass to Little Tennessee River
About 1,000 bass were placed in the Little Tennessee River at the state fish hatchery stock release site. The stocking was conducted as part of theecological resources program in early February, aiming to bolster local bass populations.
Baseball League Formed by Jaycees
A new baseball league organized as a Jaycee project is forming here led by Robert W. Pearl. Teams from Union Cartoochee Franklin and East Franklin have joined with hopes for more communities to enter. The schedule is to be developed and midget baseball for boys aged 10 to 15 is included.

Nothstein Named Ranger for Wayah District in Nantahala NF
William L. Nothstein, formerly stationed here, will succeed John Wasilik Jr. as district ranger of the Wayah District at Nantahala National Forest. Robert W. Pearl moves to Gloster Mississippi as district ranger, with William J. Bryan arriving from Centerville Alabama as assistant ranger. Pearl and family plan to depart around July 6. Norvin Duncan assistant manager of the station announced that Scenic Shots will appear next Monday evening at 130. Duncan, formerly of Franklin, came with a photographer and commercial representative after a Friday tour of the area.

Memphis pastor Dr R Paul Caudill of First Baptist Church will be guest minister for the county wide evangelistic services at Friendship Tabernacle, preaching nightly next Monday through Sunday at 8 oclock. Pre revival week features local ministers and a schedule of 8 pm services. Caudill, native of Hickory Flat, served as pastor of First Baptist Rus sia for seven years and held Baptist assembly leadership roles. Anderson Returns After 43 Years From Highlands Visit

Two men shot in Prentiss area family dispute
In Angel Clinte area McConnell and Sizemore fought over a quarrel that led to gunfire. Homer Sizemore admitted the shooting after McConnell, Hopkins, and a sister confronted him at McConnell's home near Middle Skeenah. McConnell survived with eye injury. Hopkins injured in head and abdomen but expected to recover. Sizemore arrested about midnight Tuesday by Deputy Pendergrass and Highway Patrolman Ferguson.
