The Reeves Hardware owner, elected to the town board in May 1949, is ousted from the board after serving just over half a two-year term amid a multi-candidate 1949 election contest.
Zeb Meadows has been confirmed by the U S Senate as permanent postmaster at Franklin after serving as temporary postmaster since June 1. The action was prompted by Senator Frank P Graham and comes after a recommendation from Representative months ago. No sworn-in date has been set.

Miss Doris Dalrymple daughter of Mr and Mrs WW Dalrymple of Cartoogateye community will be the Macon County representative at the annual coronation of the King and Queen of Rhododendron. She is a Franklin High School graduate employed by Franklin Proven Foods Inc. She will be presented before the Royal Rhododendron Court and attend the coronation and related events, with tea and dinner at the Biltmore Forest Country Club on July 3 hosted by the Brigade of Guards.
Slightly more than 10000 dollars is allocated for the State Highway and Public Works commission to maintain streets in Macon County towns Franklin and Highlands. An interdenominational county revival opens at Friendship Tabernacle with Rev Grady Wilson of Charlotte, associate of Billy Graham, preaching. Edith Plemmons serves as pianist and Rev R H Hull leads congregational singing as attendance grows. Services start at 8 p m nightly and run through June 30.
North Carolina planted 6,188,400 forest seedlings last year according to U S Forest Service and the North Carolina Division of Forestry. The effort cooperated in production and distribution. Seedlings were set on more than 6,000 acres of unproductive land and are expected to mature in 15 to 20 years for thinning and profit with periodic cutting thereafter.
