July 4 Free Celebration Planned in Franklin
Macon county post of the Amerian Legion plans a full day Fourth of July event in Franklin featuring a parade, a public address by a prominent speaker possibly Senator Robert R Reynolds, and free entertainment. G L Houk chairs the arrangements with A C Tom Bryson J Frank Ray and Tom Moss on the committee. Plans include prizes for floats, greased pig race, greasy pole contest, athletic events, and a Presbyterian church youth play in the evening. If Reynolds cannot attend others will be invited. Further details to be discussed at a Saturday night meeting in the courthouse. All ex service men and legion members are urged to attend.

Funeral services for Mrs. W. C. Sheffield were held at Snow Hill Methodist Church. The long illness ended Friday morning near West’s Mill. The Rev. H. C. Freeman led the service. Pallbearers were six sons Troy Carlyle Grover Weaver Vernon Harold. Survived by husband five daughters eight sons one brother four sisters. Mrs Sheffield active church member for years.
