Dr. Morgan Named Rural Minister of Year in NC
Macon County native Dr. A Rufus Morgan is named Rural Minister of the Year in The Progressive Partner July issue. He pastored in North and South Carolina before returning to Macon County in 1940, leading several churches including Cherokee Reservation work and St Agnes St Cyprian S John in the county. He serves on the Town and Country Committee of the North Carolina Council of Churches and has long aided farm communities.

Harvey Community Theatre Group Revived in Highlands
The Jaugsiminss Community Theatre in Highlands is revived after inactivity since 1950 and will launch summer shows July 3, 4, and 8. President Jack H. Wilcox says the town asked for reactivation to boost recreation and creative activity. The troupe uses local amateur talent under expert direction and has refurbished the old school building for lighting and productions. The first show will be a comedy starring James Reese with a professional actor from New York, followed by Gaslight on July 17–19. Fred Allen returns as director for the season, with four to five productions planned.
