Roane Sworn In as SC County Commissioner on Board

Houk Arrested in Liquor Case in Franatin
Guy L. Houk of Franatin was arrested on a liquor charge by Sheriff J.P. Bradley and Officer H. C. Thompson about 10 o clock Wednesday night. He was released on his own recognizance for his appearance. The arrest followed police observation of Houk in a parked car behind the courthouse with a bottle in his hand. the charge would be served later, likely by Officer Thompson.

Young People Attend Bible Conference in Georgia
Sixty nine youths and workers from Union Sunday Schools in North Carolina and Georgia attended the annual Young People's Bible conference at Lake Louise conference grounds Toccoa Georgia June 10 to 17. Bryson killed as car plunges into Buck Creek
Joe Taylor Bryson 38 of Cullasaja died when his 1937 Plymouth left the Franklin Highlands highway and dropped about 30 feet into Buck Creek. The inquest found death instant. Funeral services were held at Salem Methodist church with burial at the church cemetery. Survivors include parents William M Bryson and a number of siblings.

Display of Parachute Equipment Promotes Recruitments
Parachute display of Airborne division gear will take place on public squares June 28 to 30 led by Sgt Blaine Livingston at the Army recruiting station. Twelve parachutists from the 82nd division will show parachutes and weapons including rifles automatics mortars bazooka rockets and flamethrowers to encourage enlistments in the U. S. Army.

Bryson Shot At Browning Home In Sylva
Charlie M. Bryson of Sylva was wounded by a double barreled shotgun at his father in law Browning’s home on Wee Mountain. His brother in law Bob Browning was arrested by Sheriff J. P. Bradley and jailed Thursday morning. Bryson said the quarrel began during a drinking session and escalated late Wednesday afternoon.

Rev B Hoyt Evans Named Pastor At Franklin Church
The Rev. B Hoyt Evans has accepted a call to become pastor of the Franklin Presbyterian Church after serving as supply for several weeks. Evans, a Princeton Theological Seminary graduate with a bachelor of divinity, is the son of Mr and Mrs Ben H Evans of Weaverville. He studied at Mars Hill College and Davidson College before Princeton under the navy V-12 program. He also served as assistant pastor at Ridgeview Presbyterian Church in West Orange New Jersey. Church members have not yet been notified when he will begin permanent duties, but he is expected to assume the pulpit Sunday with the call extended about two weeks ago.

Patrolman Pritchard Smith, Jr. found 18 gallons of non tax whiskey in a car on the Highlands Franklin highway heading south near Franklin. Charlie and Mrs York and Mrs Fred York, all of Cowee Mountain, were arrested with two small children. The man jailed. the women released on recognizance. Second Hearing On Motor Freight Franchise Rights
