Legion Commander Rose Warns of Fifth Column Menace
North Carolina Legion Commander Jane H. Rose told Macon Post 108 at Cliffside Lake that a fifth column within the United States threatens democracy and called for stricter enforcement of the Alien Registration Act. He outlined a plan for Legion posts to cooperate with federal and state agencies to combat saboteurs, with three members from each post meeting FBI representatives at the state convention in High Point.

Mrs Anne Reece aged 65 died at her Highlands home Sunday afternoon after a two month illness attributed to Brights disease She was born August 28 1875 daughter of the late Logan Tallent and lived in Macon county all her life She was a Highlands Baptist Church member Funeral services were at 3 pm Sunday at Highlands Baptist Church Rev J G Benfield officiated Burial was in the church cemetery Survivors include five children Robert L Notman Elizabeth Potts P McElroy Ernest Crankleton three brothers EM Tallent Lee Tallent Jess Tallent and three sisters Ketty Poindexter Clifford Hood Callie Tallent and 13 grandchildren

Catherine Anne Ammons died at her son James B. Ammons home in Ellijay Macon County near Franklin on Sunday morning about 7 o clock after lingering illness of over three years. Born April 22 1835 in Savannah she was the daughter of Thomas and Sallie Ashe. Funeral held Monday at Ellijay Baptist church with Rev Zolly Fox and Rev William Breedlove in charge. Pallbearers named. Survived by two sons J B Ammons of Ellijay and John T Ammons of Winston-Salem one brother John Ashe of Savannah one sister Mrs Aliie Ashe Cole of Savannah and 14 grandchildren.

Power Project is approved for the Nantahala and Glenville dam construction. Franklin attorney Guy L. Houk represented the company before the Utilities Commission. The Federal Power Commission waived jurisdiction after informal talks with Governor Hoey. Aluminum's use in aircraft and war materials strengthens defense program ties. Rue Emma Arcella Duvall Woody 82 of Tellico died at home Friday afternoon after months of illness. A lifelong Macon County resident born October 26, 1857 she married C. B. Woody in 1879. Funeral held Saturday at Tellico Baptist Church with Rev. Mayberry and Rev. Stanberry presiding. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by five children five Woody and 16 grandchildren.
