Rollman fights to keep name off short term ballot in 12th district
In a county budget report the value rises to 18.5 million and tax rate stays steady. Rollman seeks exclusion from the short term ballot in the 12th district special election to fill the late David Hall’s unexpired term, while remaining the Republican nominee for the November two-year term. Attorney General Wade Bruton previously ruled Rollman’s name must appear, as he did not withdraw 30 days before the special election. A write in option remains on the Republican side for the short term. The Democratic nominee Roy A. Taylor is not running for the short term. The election date and filing schedule remained unsettled. The county valuation climbed from 18 million to 18.5 million.

Maconians Set for Europe Exchange Through AFS Program
Two Franklin High students Bill Hyde and Linda Morrow have been accepted as exchange students with the American Field Service. Hyde will live with the Paulsen family near Appatein Tauns Germany, while Morrow goes to Kabellen Betatum near the Netherlands border. Both plan to return home in 1961 after language studies and help from coordinator Frances Winstead.
