Calendar of the week lists events for Thursday June 16 at 3 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. Bible class at home of, 1:20 p.m. Teen Age club at Hotel Hearn, 3 p.m. Dance benefiting Memorial Building. Tuesday 7:30 p.m. Junaluskee Lodge No. 43 AF and AM meets.
Funeral services for A B Brown were conducted Tuesday at Sealy Baptist Church with Rev Ostar Nix officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Buings, Hugh Dryman, Raymond Penland, James Miller, Ed Vinson, and Frank Dryman. Bryant Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are his widow Jessie Chastain of Dillard Ga, two sons James and Oscar Brown of Sealy, and four daughters Mrs Jessie McCall, Mrs Ida Houston of Gnela, Mrs Tommy Lee and Mrs Helen Brown of Sealy.

Manuel Holland age 19 and Nell Mooney age 20 led a Methodist Youth Fellowship service in the absence of the pastor. Holland is the son of Mrs. Pearl Holland and Mooney is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Mooney, with both contributing to church work.

Miss Phyllis Moses daughter of Mr and Mrs PN Moses of Dallasaja has been notified that she won a $100 scholarship for the next year at Western Carolina Teachers College Cullowhee. Moses graduated from Franklin High.
A 15 year old lad from City Market impressed anglers by catching a record trout in the Nantehala River this week. The fish set a new local mark, drawing curious onlookers and sparking talks of a future in fishing.
Boubie Gay Tallent daughter of Me and Mrs Robert Tallent of Fruitland Institute Henderson county competes in the state Baptist Training Union memory contest entered in the junior memory event after winning an associational drill at Longview Baptist church and a convention round. Mrs C E Parker acted as coach.
J J Mann teacher at Franklin school and Macon County elections chairman was admitted after a heart attack on his farm at Skeenah Creek Friday morning. Attendants report his condition as showing improvement yesterday at Angel hospital.
Joan William McCoy a 30 year old farmer of the Gneiss community in Transylvania County was drowned in the French Broad river Monday. His body found Tuesday morning after a large search involving firemen from Hendersonville and Tragasville. McCoy who suffered epilepsy likely fell in during an attack. He was a Pine Grove Baptist member. Survivors include a son James Baward McCoy of Franklin a daughter Dorothy La Conley of Franklin a brother S D McCoy of Glenville and sisters Mrs Henderson of Brevard and Mrs Bula Hetry of Big. Funeral held at Walnut Creek Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery. Brevard Junior College listed among area alumni and Brevard College.
The Franklin Church announces a vacation Bible school starting next Monday at 9 o clock with leaders Mrs Zeb Donley for beginners Mrs Ray Hemphill for Juniors and Miss Mozell McCormack for intermediates. A benefit square dance follows at Otto school tonight at 8 with the Keener string band providing music.
The Franklin Methodist church has employed a youth worker for the summer season. Miss Mozelle McCormick of Mount Airy was selected for the position and assumed her duties last Sunday. The effort to appoint a director of religious education began with the Wesleyan Service Guild and the plan was approved by the board of stewards. The project was funded by World Sunday School, other organizations, individuals, and Carson's Chapel parishioners. Miss McCormick is staying at the home of Mr and Mrs Allen Siler.
Members of the class of 1902 of the old Georgia State Normal School arrive for a week long house party at Buck Creek Ranch near Franklin. The trip includes rides to the Great Smoky Mountains and visits to Highlands and the Campbell Folk School Brasstown. Miss Harlette Kinnebrew hosts a Saturday reception at Slagle Memorial building.
Stewart will become highway engineer for the division July 1, succeeding John C. Walker. Walker, district engineer with headquarters in Asheville, has directed construction of every state highway in this end of the state for 26 years. Walker exchanges places with Stewart, becoming eighth division engineer with headquarters at North Wilkesboro. The shift is part of a statewide reassignment of all 10 division engineers announced in Raleigh. Nine of 10 receive new assignments. the tenth is to retire and be succeeded by his former assistant.
Franklin faces the Veterans nine of Asheville on Saturday at 2 30 p m and meets Clark's Chapel Sunday at 2 30 p m Coach Milburn Atkins notes Franklin players have shown movement since the Highlands game and expect a fast team The probable lineup includes fatheran brogden Crispy Sigheson or Archer and Polnidexter or Stewart
Plan Clark's Chapel Home Coming program at Clark's Chapel Methodist. The general style invites all to come and spend the day. Preparations include church cleaning on Friday and a decoration service at Burningtown Baptist. Rev C Welch announced the plan at church Sunday.
Western Carolina Telephone company switches Franklin to a modern five position common battery switchboard direct long distance lines. Investment about 65000. 10 year plan anticipates 90 percent more users and more operators on duty. New directories mailed this week with updated numbers. work began last January and continues as outside exchanges install.
Mrs Rogers observed a birthday celebration on Sunday June 37 per home, enjoying gifts from friends and visits on the lawn. The event continued with revival services planned for the week at 8 pm led by Pastor Bren and Mr Philips, with a schedule of sermons each evening.
