Prominent Lawyer Thomas J Johnston Dies Suddenly
Thomas J Johnston a well known North Carolina lawyer died unexpectedly. Officers of the prohibition bureau intercepted two whisky laden cars on Cowee mountain near Franklin early Saturday. One Pontiacs coupe carried three men and 34 gallons of whisky and a Ford roadster carried two men and 30 gallons. The five men from Asheville surrendered with two reportedly escaping. Cars bore North Carolina license tags. Three similar seizures have occurred on Cowee mountain in the past month.

Prominent North Carolina Lawyer Dies on Porch
Funeral services for Thomas Jackson Johnston a leading Western North Carolina lawyer who died at his Main street home were held at the Methodist church with burial west of town. Born June 7 1875 he studied at Emory College and UNC law and served as Franklin schools principal and county superintendent. He is survived by his widow three sons a sister and a brother.
