Macon Voters Set Second Primary For Senate Nominee
Macon County Democrats schedule a second primary for next Saturday to choose a U S senator nominee between Frank P Graham and Will Smith. Graham led May 21 with 53,883 votes but short of a majority. Reynolds and Boyd split over six percent in the first primary. Julia Hunnicutt to represent Franklin Lions Club in district queen competition in Charlotte next week.

Elder Henry Rex Peek Dies After Sudden Heart Event
Henry Rex Peek, 86, of Ellijay, died while on his way to work near his home when a heart attack was believed to occur. He had lived in the area since infancy, was twice married, and survived by his daughter, six sons, and numerous grandchildren. He was a member of Ellijay Baptist Church. The Asbury Methodist Church will hold its annual vacation Bible school starting Monday at 2 p.m.

Mrs Debert W Angel of Patton settlement was thrown from a horse at the Angel barn when the animal struck a low beam. She was knocked unconscious, suffered a concussion and body contusions, and is under treatment in Angelville.

Mrs Hedden 88 Passes at Highlands in North Carolina
Mrs. Mary Lou Hedden widow of William Hedden died at her Highlands home on Tuesday at age 88. A Maco County native, she survived by three sons Thomas E. Hedden of Morganton, William P. Hedden and Jonny Hedden of Highlands, two daughters, Mars Colin of Wichita Falls and Evie Tattello of Atlanta, stepdaughters Jesse Morgan and John Tatham, and many grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Dubree at Highlands Presbyterian Church with burial in the Highlands Cemetery. Arrangements were by Potts Funeral Home.

Macon County will offer a 5140,000 school bond issue for sale July 11 after local approval. The Local Government Commission will advertise 10 days and bids will be opened. proceeds, plus a 361,000 state grant, total 875,000 for four school sites with grading by Macon Construction Co. starting at Franklin High.
