Rogers Named by Democrats in Macon County Convention
Dr W A Rogers elected chairman of the Macon county Democratic executive committee at a county convention held at the courthouse. The motion to instruct the county’s representative in the General Assembly to vote for repeal of the absentee ballot passed overwhelmingly. A nine name school board ticket was proposed with three to be chosen by the state board of location. Rogers received five votes to three for Steve Roger and one for K A Patton. the committee then made his election unanimous. Lassie Kelly Cunningham reelected vice chairwoman. Kerr Cunningham secretary. About 200 delegates attended from across 12 precincts, with many women present, and all were named delegates to the state convention in Raleigh on June 21.
