Tallulah Falls Railway Adds Two Modern Coaches
Encouraged by rising passenger traffic the Tallulah Falls Railway under receiver J. F. Gray plans two new cars for Sunday. One will carry passengers, the other baggage mail and express. Both have steel underframes, reinforced steel, Tuscan red finish, and 76 seats.

Admiral McCully Undergoes Operation At Angel Hospital
Admiral Newton Alexander McCully, former Atlantic Fleet commander, aged 67, underwent an operation at Angel Hospital Wednesday at 9 am. Surgeons said he was doing as well as could be expected Thursday, noting his courage. He arrived from St Augustine to spend summer in Highlands and calmly accepted the news with readiness.

Legion to Hold Meeting Monday Night

Sam Cunningham Dies at 67 Rural Farmer Passes After Operation
Sam Cunningham, 67, a Clark's Chapel area farmer, died at Angel hospital after surgery. Funeral Friday at 10 am at Clark's Chapel Methodist church with ministers E R Eller and J A Flanagan officiating. Survived by widow, two daughters Essie Cunningham of Franklin and Mrs J B Sherrill of Asheville, and seven sons Walter, Carl of Waynesville, Paul of Rainbow Springs, Fred of Baltimore, Roy, Bill, and Henry of Franklin. Funeral details reflect local church ties and county prominence.

6000 Books Circulated By Library in 26 Months
Franklin Library reported over 6000 books circulated since reopening 25 months ago. Librarian Mrs. J A Ordway noted only six volumes lost, praise for children’s care, and repairs funded by FERA last summer. The library serves rural teachers and state prison inmates, with 2050 total volumes after a 197 volume gift and new shelves funded locally.

North Carolina Symphony to Open Asheville Summer Series
The North Carolina Symphony Orchestra led by Lamar Stringfield will open its second Asheville summer season with a gala at Lee H. Edwards High School on June 18. Plans include 18 concerts statewide and a Cullowhee July 17 commencement concert at Caldwell’s college amphitheatre under moonlight with Stringfield performing a flute solo.

Postal Carrier Schedule Is Changed
The Etna post office announces a revised carrier route to improve mail delivery. The Franklin post office will depart at 7:00 am as before, with the West's Mill stop occurring after a side trip to Leatherman, then Etna at 11:45 am, one hour earlier than prior. The return trips from Etna to West's Mill at 12:30 pm and to Franklin at 12:20 pm are scheduled, urging patrons to mail at least one hour earlier than previous departures.

Hurts In Auto Crash Hobman Hoilman Injured In Collision
Forest Hoilman, 22, of Franklin, is in Angel hospital with two punctured lungs after a daytime pair of crashes Monday. His companion, Davis Reece, escaped injury in both incidents. The first crash occurred in the Savannah section of Jackson county as Hoilman and Reece headed home with a fighting cock in the rumble seat. They righted the car and proceeded, but along Riverview street near J. T. Moore’s home the vehicle struck an electric pole. Reece was thrown clear with no serious injuries. Hoilman, later found to have internal injuries, initially refused surgery but was later taken to the hospital. The fighting cock broke a wing in the crashes.

Satulah Club Plans To Build Club House
The Satulah club discussed plans at its June meeting for erecting a clubhouse donated by Highlands near the school auditorium. The building will include an indoor gymnasium for Highlands school once completed, and the club, led by president Mrs. J A Hines, counts about 40 members.

Chevrolet Company Moves Into New Quarters
Franklin Chevrolet roved this week from the Franks building on Main street into new quarters in a tile and stucco building on Palmer street formerly used by Henry Angel Motor. W C Burrell, manager of the Chevrolet agency and owner of the building, said he was contemplating a second story for storage.

Funeral Held for Mrs. G. R. McPherson, 73
Mrs. G R McPherson aged 73 died at her Morrison Georgia road home at 12 40 p m Wednesday after paralysis. Funeral services were held at Morrison Presbyterian church at 3 pm Thursday conducted by Rev J A Flanagan. Surviving are her husband six sons and two daughters.
