Patsy Corbin and Suzanne Cunningham top senior awards at the annual 4H dress revue held Friday afternoon in East Franklin. Junior winners include Patricia Bryson Claudetta McCoy and Suzanne Cunningham with blue ribbons awarded to other contestants. Theme titled A Hit Parade of Passion highlighted best dresses and school dress entries judged by Mrs. Betty Stiles Jackson County home agent.
Methodists near a sweeping turnover across circuits with Rev J C Lane taking over West Macon Circuit and Rev Earl T Crowe planned for Atlanta. Circuit roles include Gillespie Chapel Malden's Chapel Me Zion Louisa Chapel and more. LH Hayes long associated with Franklin area churches discussed as a notable figure with Mrs Hayes, native to the county. Riverview and Carson also cited within the circuit.
Local pilots unhurt after a takeoff attempt ends with the all metal aircraft cartwheeling into a pasture. Chief Carter and passenger Mr Henn credit a special shoulder harness for preventing injuries. A longtime community gathering announced by the Little League and Babe Ruth League promises fiddlin and pickin for baseball fans in Franklin. The all night event aims to raise funds with a bake sale at the Saint Agnes Episcopal Church while musicians perform and volunteers help at the Children’s Shop.
Ranger Nothstein reports the unmanned communications tower near Bald will not be open to the public yet due to continued delays. The tower, expected to operate months ago, has faced renewed postponements before it can begin serving as planned.
John Killian and Bobby Poindexter rising Frankin High seniors are at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for Boy's State, sponsored by the American Legion Post 7 which funded their registration. Delegates were chosen for scholastic achievement and leadership. Boy's State ends Sunday. Others mentioned include Bud Shape, Dr. RE McArte, and Lions Club directors attending statewide events.
James M. Raby requests a second primary after finishing second to incumbent G. L. Houk in the May 31 General Assembly race. Houk led with 1,217 votes, Raby had 909, and Weimar Jones 862 in a three-way contest. A runoff is set for June 28 in the western state district, with Lee Barnard scheduling ballots.
A huge Western North Carolina paving job from Franklin to the Georgia state line, 1259 miles resurfaced with a five inch coating, faces delays as equipment and labor crews await arrival. Ballenger, president of the Bile Paving Company, said completion targets by September 1, with bids near $439,182.
About 18 churches in the Macon Baptist Association will hold summer Bible schools with help from the association and national missionary Rev. CT Taylor. Churches currently conducting programs include Cowee Frank Us First Brartown Ridgecrest Conview Newman's Chapel Hig wile Tota and Windy Gap.

A Gibson reunion gathering took place Sunday at the home of the Rev Welch. Attendees from Etowah Tennessee included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grant and Grady of Etowah. Greenville South Carolina residents Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Dalton and family joined, along with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Dalton and daughter Rita of Adana Georgia. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gibson and two daughters of Sylva and Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Dalton of Aston.
A new boys camp publicized as the highest summer camp in East or America opens next Wednesday. It is situated atop Brush Mountain at about 4 100 feet altitude, near No. 106 between Highlands and Dillard, Ga.
