Franklin County reports severe spring weather with hail, heavy rain, and lightning. Damage includes uprooted trees, flooded basements, stalled cars, and damaged gardens. Rain totals reach 3.06 inches in Franklin, 2.21 inches at Coweeta. storms affected some areas more than others. Fire crews responded to a false alarm and a real fire caused by a overheated transformer.

Plan To Hire Life Guard At Arrowood
Local citizens plan to hire a lifeguard for the Arrowood swimming pool in the Nantahala National Forest after forest service funds proved unavailable. Dr. Furman Angel leads the effort, contacting local men to fund and supervise a guard, who would work daily from 8 p.m. pending forest service clearance. Participants pledging support include AG Cale, Frank S. Duncan, EJ Whitmire, R. R. Gaines, and Burrell Motor Company representative Bb Mecame.

Wilson Rites Held Saturday at Bethel Church
Funeral services for B. E Wilson of Franklin aged 81 were held Saturday at 3 20 p m at Bethel Methodist Church. Born April 8 1871 he moved from Jackson County to this county 48 years ago and died in an Asheville hospital. Survivors include a daughter Virginia Scroges and a son Dwight Wilson. Burial was in the church cemetery with pallbearers named. Arrangements were by Bryant Funeral. VFW members from here attended a veterans event in Charlotte.

Accidents Plague Highlands Road In Weekend Report
Highlands area reports thirteen crashes on Highlands Franklin road this week. Two crashes occurred in the same curve within 14 hours. Lawrence A. Jones, 39, of Grand Bay Alabama, suffered a fractured skull when his empty semi trailer left the curve near Palmer road and rolled into a pasture. Sammy Holland of Cullasaja escaped injury in a separate 4 am Tuesday crash. A Sunday crash near Bridal Veil falls blocked traffic. no injuries listed. River condition noted as improving. Highway patrol and Highlands officers released limited details.

Long Killed In Tank Explosion In Augusta
Jack Long an employee of Southern Welding and Machine Co. in Augusta Georgia was killed June 2 when a paint tank he was welding exploded. He was the son of Mrs. Nellie Justice, a Macon County native and former Ioda Community resident now living in Washington Georgia. Attending the funeral were Mrs. Howard Brendel, Mrs. C. E. Thurmond, Mrs. George Byrd, Fred Dowdle and J. L. Young.

Bascom-Louise Receives Major Hotel Improvements
Bascom-Louise, formerly Trleemont Terrace, an historic Highlands resort hotel, has undergone an $80,000 interior facelift.
