Subscription Campaign To Boost Local Circulation
The Franklin Press and Highlands Maconian plan a subscription campaign in Franklin and nearby towns next week. Five volunteers Bryant Bryans Carr Horsley and Porter will visit and welcome new subscribers. The effort targets service families and aims to support home readers as many leave for war work or the armed forces. A $2500 War Bond grand prize will reward the greatest number of subscriptions and renewals.

Dr Frank Killian eye ear nose and throat specialist has been commissioned captain in the Army Air Corps and called into active service. He has left to take up duties at Morris Field Chadlotte. His office will remain open for a month with secretary Mrs Fred Grant in charge. After that Mrs Killian will handle communications from Franklin home. His loss from local practice will be keenly felt as he served here and in neighboring communities as a specialist. He trained at Louisville Medical College and New Orleans Medical College returning to Franklin in 1937 to establish his office.

She was a Macon county lifelong resident, daughter of the late Dr. Calloway and Hinchiet Ledford Kimsey, and member of Maiden Chapel Methodist Church. Survived by a sister Miss Laura Kimsey. Funeral at Maiden Chapel Church at 10 30 with Rev J C Swaim officiating. Buried in church cemetery.

Franklin All-Stars won two of three over Hayesville by 3-2 and 10-3, moving atop the Smoky Mountain League as Murphy and Bryson City split a twin bill. George Elliott drove in the decisive run in the 11th inning of game one and added a hit and triple in game two. Curve Ball Bailey earned his fourth win in the 10-3 nightcap, while Dan Reynolds pitched 11 innings across both games. The team heads to Murphy next for a twin bill before home games.
