Rufus Green longtime Franklin craftsman dies at 92
Rufus Green 92 a Franklin resident and noted cabinet maker and machinist died Wednesday June 15 at his home. He lived most of his life in Macon and was famed for tools like a steel lathe and early electric motors wired for operation by John Gribble. Funeral services were held at Franklin Baptist Church with Rev W Chapman and Rev W N Cook officiating. Centennial Plans Fall Into Place For Town
Delegates to Boys' State and Girls' State have been elected by the American Legion post and auxiliary for the town centennial celebrations. The events run June 2 to 17 with boys at UNC Chapel Hill and girls at Woman's College Greensboro. Local youths Tommy Gnuse and Jerry Norton are sponsored, with Joye Gribble as auxiliary representative. The three Franklin High graduates were chosen for scholastic and extracurricular achievement. Centennial preparations advance as officials report the three-day party shaping into a major event of the era, with a Struttin' Day set for Saturday and parades planned at 11 am and 3 pm subject to weather.

Farm Bureau organized in Franklin county event
A new Farm Bureau was formed Friday night at the Agricultural Building. Bob Parker of Franklin Route 1 was elected president, 1.8 Gray of Hickory Kroll section vice president, and Mrs. Mary B. Justice of Holly Springs secretary treasurer. Clyde R. Greene of Boone was guest speaker. O. L. Yates explained the program, with a budget over 2500 dollars for a parade prize barbecue and features. Centennial badges are sold to support the Franklin celebration with limited plates and records on sale first come first served. Most festivities are free with square dances and entertainers invited for three days of events around the courthouse area. The full story appears next week.

Finger Named To Industry Program Job. Banks Finger, Franklin at eatney, has been appointed ester representative to the Small Industrial Development Plan. The function of the plan is to screen industries for small towns and communities over the Mate. Gov. Luther H Hodges suggested the plan and is being assisted by the N.C. Jaycees.
