Register For Special Bond Ballot Seeks Voter Registration

Dowdle Dies After Long Illness At Franklin Church
E A Dowdle native of Macon County died after a lengthy illness in Franklin. He operated a store for years near the Franklin area and was a member of Union Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at the church with interment in the cemetery. Survivors include his widow Laura Bel Pres time and children Erwin Dowdle and Mrs Burney, plus two brothers and three sisters. The body is to be prepared by Pear funeral service in Franklin.

Tipton Named Forest Engineer for Nantahala Forest
Tipton, formerly with Cherokee National Forest and based in Elizabethton Tennessee, reports to Nantahala Forest headquarters to assume the post of forest engineer responsible for construction and maintenance of all forest improvements. This marks the first Nantahala forest engineer since before the war. Tipton’s home is in Erwin Tennessee and he plans to relocate his wife and two children to Franklin once housing is found. A Van Raalte Company representative, W. Crawfora, visited Franklin Tuesday regarding plans related to the project.

Roane Chosen to Fill Unexpired County Board Term
John W. Roane, a prominent Cactoogechaye farmer, was chosen Monday by two fellow county commissioners to fill the unexpired term of Charlie L Blaine, who died last Saturday. Vacation Bible School Programs At Local Churches
Vacation Bible School programs run this week at Franklin Methodist church and Sloan's chapel in East Franklin. The Methodist school enrolls about 60 children from Monday to Friday 9 to 11 30 a m with films and a picnic planned. The Sloan's chapel program is directed by Rev R E Hull with a Sunday public program at 3 p m. The Baptist church opens Tuesday through June 21 with sessions 2 to 12 daily for ages two to seventeen under Rev Charles E Parker and staff. A preparatory session is set for Saturday at 2 7 o clock. Also noted is a cemetery cleanup day at Union Methodist church on June 11 for relatives and friends of the cemetery.

Forest heads hold two day meeting here
A regional forest allotment conference brought the regional forester and supervisors of three national forests to Franklin for a two day meeting. Attendees included former supervisors J Herbert Stone W R Paddock and Charles Melichar and others from Nantahala Pisgah and Cherokee forests. They discussed needs for the next fiscal year and equitable allotments of funds appropriated by Congress.
