Mrs. Brendle Dies After Illness in Franklin
Mrs. Hermon D. Brendle died Friday at her East Franklin home after months of illness including three strokes. A Bethel Methodist Church member, she was predeceased by her maiden name Carrie Virginia Gibbs. Funeral at Bethel Church Saturday at 4 pm with Rev. H. S. Williams officiating. Pallbearers listed. Survived by husband, four daughters, four sons, 12 grandchildren, and two sisters in Virginia and North Carolina.

Azaleas On Wayah In Full Bloom
Visitors to the John Byrne Memorial Tower atop Wayah bald in Nantahala National Forest will find vast azalea beds in full bloom over the next two weeks. Flame azalea runs from Arrowood Glade to Wayah Gap with fragrant white and scarlet varieties filling the mountain peak. The fragrant white azaleas surround the new 53 foot Byrne tower, peaking in late June, with views of the Blue Ridge Nantahala and Great Smoky mountains from the balcony 30 feet up. Wayah bald is reached via U S 64 west of Franklin along a forest service road to the 5300-foot summit.

Baxter's Coming To Franklin Comedy Show
Baxter's Comedians come to Franklin next Monday June 13 to present plays and vaudeville. They perform works like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and Trail of the Lonesome Pine. The comedian Uncle Billy Boughton is 75 and is the oldest on any show today. Baxter, the show's manager, was formerly with Reno's Show.

Mrs Martha Jacobs Passes Sunday in Franklin
Mrs Martha Jacobs wife of George Jacobs of Franklin Route 3 died Sunday afternoon at 2 after a brief illness. Rev J A Flanagan led funeral services at her Franklin home then held at Franklin Presbyterian Church. Interment followed in Franklin cemetery. Surviving are her husband a daughter Mrs Reba Stanfield a grandson Bobby Stanfield her mother Mrs Mack Boston a sister Mrs Bob Anderson and two brothers Will and Gene Boston all of Franklin.
