Double Header Scheduled for Ashe Stars at Franklin Diamond

Franklin fans anticipate a double header next Sunday after noon June as the Ashe Stars visit from Asheville. The first game starts at 2 PM with a large crowd expected. Franklin field will be unused for two weeks during WPA improvements, then play resumes.

The Boy Scout troop spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Lumpkin Camp on Wayah with Rev Frank Bloxham accompanying them. Sixteen Macon county students received B S degrees at Western Carolina Teachers College Cullowhee on June 6. Community Building Sponsorship Promised by Officials

County commissioners and town board pledged sponsorship for a community building project at May meetings after a Franklin Garden Club committee presented. They offered a lot on Palmer Street near the Georgia road and Sinclair station with full cooperation in plans developed with Mayor Frank Ray and WPA Director Gwynn Denton. Garden club representatives Mrs. Charles Melichar, Mrs. R. M. Rimmer, and Mrs. W. C. Penn spoke for the committee, joined by Mrs. A. R. Higdon and Mrs. James Perry. other club members include Mrs. J. S. Sloan and Mrs. W. A. Rogers. Plans aim to present to county and town groups to form a joint directing committee.

Gibson Reunion Scheduled for June 11 in Bryson City

Descendants of the St John and Stewart Gibson plan a reunion Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Garland Gibson in Bryson City. A L Smiley of Bryson City to lead Sunday school. The Dalton quartet of Wests Mill the Cardons of Sylva and the Enka quartet of Enka will be present to sing.

Postmaster Porter Reappointed for Four-Year Term

Franklin reports Postmaster Thomas W. Porter has been reappointed for another four-year term and his name sent to the Senate for confirmation. His incumbency has boosted savings bonds sales and general postal business, with a courteous staff including Henderson Calloway George Mallonee and Phil McCollum who will continue serving the public.

Mary Helen Reed Dies at 11 Months Old

Mary Helen Reed aged 11 months died Sunday night at 11 on Murphy road west of Franklin from colitis. Funeral services were held Monday at the home of her maternal grandparents in Andrews, conducted by Rev. E F Baker of First Baptist. Interment followed in Andrews Cemetery. Surviving are Henry and Mrs Reed, a brother Eddie and sister Doris Jean.
