Town to file civil suit over zoning violation
The Town of Franklin authorized an institute civil action against Lee Tippett for operating a rock crusher in a residential area in violation of zoning rules. A restraining order is planned to stop the operation. Town officials also re hired water, fire, and police staff on a month to month basis amid other civic actions.

Drag Race Reported On US 64 Near Slagle’s Dairy

Auto crash claims lives of Macon sians
A South Skeenah man Porter Thomas and his family were killed in a Sunday midnight crash near Madison Georgia when the car allegedly veered off the road and struck a bridge abutment. Ethel Mae Mot Thomas 40 and their daughter Carole Elizabeth Thomas 3 died at the scene and a hospital in Athens treated others. Kate 6 and Ray 10 were among the injured, with all occupants hospitalized. See No 2 Page 10.

Sweatman Dies At 81 In Morganton Area
Daniel Monroe Sweatman 81 longtime Forest Service worker and farmer died Thursday in Morganton hospital after illness of three weeks. He lived in Dills Creek Carnegocheaye area, native of Jackson County, born November 29 1875. He married Josie Johnson October 30 1899, who survives. Funeral Saturday at Carloogechaye Baptist Church with Rev Andrew Cloer officiating. Surviving: wife two sons Brodie Franklin Route 1 and Wiley Concrete Wash two daughters Fred Butterworth Mine Run Va and George E Anderson Route 1. brother Sam Route 3 sister Mrs John Hall Franklin. seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
